CHATPATA YELLOW PEAS(CHATPATI)

Chatpati is famous oriya cuisine(specially in rural area of orissa).During my school days,there used to be a chatpatiwala(the man who makes chatpati)right infront of my school gate.At the intreval time he use to move near to the fence and children use to rush and buy this chatpati,which is popularly called as "CHATPATI/BARMAJA" in oriya.The main ingredients are yellow peas and potatoes.It’s spicy and tangy combining a satisfying variety of flavors and textures.



INGREDIENTS:-

Dry yellow peas-1 cup
Turmeric powder-1/4 tsp
Chopped boiled potato-1 large
Chopped onion-1 medium
Chopped tomato-1 medium
Chopped green chili-4
Roasted Cumin powder-1 tsp
Lemon juice-1  tbsp
Chili powder-1/4 tsp(optional,if eu need more spicy)
Chat masala-1/2 tsp
Green chutney-1/2 tsp(optional)
Black salt to taste
Salt-1/2 tsp

METHOD:-

1-Soak the dry yellow peas in water for 6-7 hours or overnight.


2-Pressure cook the peas with salt and  turmeric powder till soft or to 3-4 whistle.Once cool,drain all water.


3-In a bowl,add boiled peas,chopped boiled potato,chopped onion,chopped green chili and chopped tomato,mix well.


4-Sprinkle roasted cumin powder,chili powder,chat masala,green chutney,black salt and lemon juice.


5-Mix properly and serve immediately.
